Xerox's Global Imaging Systems Still Selling Competitors' Products

Global Imaging Systems, a former print VAR now owned by Xerox, will continue to resell competitor Konica Minolta's hardware and support through March 2008, both companies announced June 14.

The arrangement allows Global Imaging Systems, which reached a similar arrangement earlier in June with Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America, to reach a broader market set than it otherwise would selling by just Xerox products. Xerox acquired Global Imaging Systems, based in Tampa, Fla., in April, Global Imaging CEO Tom Johnson said in a statement.

"Global Imaging has been successful in going after the small- to midmarket users and Konica Minolta has been one of the vendors that they will continue to [use to] provide that technology to the customers who want it," said Keith Kmetz, an analyst at IDC.

Under the agreement, Konica Minolta will provide Global's customers with its bizhub product, which offers print, copy, scan and fax capabilities in different speeds and has enhanced security features.
